FACS 240: concepts in interior design
This course is being used to substitute for FACS 250: Interior Design II. Both FACS 240 and 250 apply the design process to a realistic scenario working with clients. In this case, the Saffer House and the Spa served as practice for applying the design process and working with the requests and needs of the clients.
SAFFER
HOUSE

Concept Statement: "Imagine a clean and contemporary home designed with natural lighting. The aroma of the fresh plants and scents of eucalyptus and teakwood fill the room with a relaxing sensation as family and friends gather near the fire place and cozy up on an oversized couch with linen accent pillows creating a clean, yet inviting look to the room"

This board shows the existing conditions of the Saffer house that we were working with. This phase of the project allowed us to practices hand-drawing floor plans.

My first final board shows the floor plan including furniture, furniture selections, appliances, and fabric/materials I chose for the house. I wanted to create a contemporary modern home while incorporating warm colors to make the space more inviting. Taking the requests and information from the Saffer's I chose finishes and furniture that would work well together as well as fit their expectations for both functionality and aesthetics.

The second final board shows the kitchen and dining selections. I chose a quartz countertop for sustainability.

The purpose of this project was to challenge the student to think about the function of the space and incorporating it into our design selections. From low VOC paints, slip-proof flooring, and water-proof/ resistant fabric materials used, all are used to create a better and more sustainable environment for the everyday function of the space.
