FACS 300:
INTERIOR DESIGN III
Saylor Creek Senior Living Facility
This commercial project was given to the students to be able to exemplify the design process and apply the needs, requirements, and things found in research to a personally designed senior living facility. As students prepared for the project, they researched how interior design can affect the health and well-being of residents. In addition to researching, students composed a client proposal on statistics of local competition, the overall health of the aged in the region, and the proposed order of plan.

The adjacency matrix helps to organize and to see the relationships between each area to get an idea of how to arrange the required spaces. created on Photoshop and Canva.

The bubble diagram helps to communicate what is found in the adjacency matrix in a different way. Through the bubble diagram we see the relationships between areas and see groups of areas form. Additionally, each bubble presents the amount of area a space may consume. created on Photoshop and Canva.

The blocking plan takes the information from the adjacency matrix and the bubble diagram to begin to arrange the areas in a possible layout for a floorpan. created in AutoCAD and Photoshop.

The reception concept sketch presents an elevation. Navy blue stained shiplap is used for an accent wall behind the desk with an LED sign of the logo. Bordering the wall are two stacked stone walls/columns. The reception desk is round with a lowered middle section for ADA purposes. presentation done in Photoshop.

The nurse's station sketch shows a personal and stylized office space with storage with a rustic, coastal style. The window brings in natural lighting and for increasing productivity. presentation done in Photoshop.

The dining area rendering captures the coastal style of the facility. I wanted to create a high end cafe style dining area for residents that is private and intimate. The sketch features glass French doors that are intended to be opened when the weather is nice to bring fresh air in as well as natural lighting. The doors open up to the courtyard, if residents choose to spend their meal times out on the courtyard. presentation done in Photoshop.

The multi-purpose area can be used as a movie theatre, music therapy room, and more. My sketch features acoustic design with the panels incorporated.presentation done in Photoshop.

This elevation shows the side wall of the multipurpose and music therapy room for the memory care residents. I chose to use vinyl records, a record player, and a juke box to bring the residents back to a familiar "place" in their lives to promote the health of their memory. A small cafe countertop was added for concessions during movie nights. presentation created in Photoshop.
